Now enter: the cliche graphic designer bio. Years of trials and tribulations, honing your craft and finding who you are. Except—that really does seem to be the formula to success. Take it from me.
My journey started when I was small, finding excitement in every school project. Life led me to the University of Florida, where I discovered graphic design and fell in love with illustrating (not sure how, but I taught myself image trace before discovering the pen tool…)
Next stop: New York. Every artist’s dream. And a dream it was. I did my fair share of finding myself as I tried on the flashy NYC lifestyle as a design intern working on big pharma. Before you cringe, I was lucky to have done my time on a rare, rewarding venture: exploring how to create disease awareness for postpartum depression, a taboo condition that affects millions of women.
Sometimes the shoe doesn’t fit, no matter how sparkly it is. A different dream brought me back down to Florida. Every designer knows work is scarce, just ask the Rachel who spent months working at a sushi restaurant while applying to countless design jobs. The takeaway? When life hands you lemons, make sushi.
The next—and current—chapter finds me working as a production designer at 321, a creative agency in downtown Orlando. I’ve learned to understand the intricacies of executing creative for a large company with strict brand standards. Figuring out how to stretch my creativity through tight deadlines and restrictions has made me detail-oriented and efficient—but I’m ready for more.
I’m hungry to make creative that inspires, to be part of something extraordinary, and—yes, in true cliché fashion—continue to find myself. In the meantime, I’ll continue to be obsessed with my lucky black cat, Mika, leafing through recipe books and wish-shopping on Airbnb.
Let’s make something amazing together.
